This week our legal resources made one thing clear: a solid understanding of the Statutes of Limitations is absolutely fundamental to an attorney’s job. They usually cannot take cases after the Statute of Limitation has passed for the particular situation or type of law. The Statutes of Limitations vary greatly by state and type of crime. The changing nature of statutes makes it reasonable to be in contact with an attorney simply to file your claim or lawsuit appropriately and in a timely manner.
One of the most important pieces of information that we learned from our lawyers this week was that there are very few exceptions to the Statute of Limitation. Obviously certain extreme situations can warrant exceptions, but as a rule of thumb, do not consider waiting when filing a lawsuit.
Below, we’ve awarded the comments we found most valuable. Check back later in the week for our followup article.
