If you are thinking of installing a pool, hot tub, spa or even a Jacuzzi, you need to choose a place where you can safely run the wiring and place the receptacle in a safe area.
You cannot hook the units up to 110 outlets.
You will need to use the proper wiring, receptacle and other materials, which will depend on where you are placing the pool, hot tub, spa or Jacuzzi.
The hot tub has a service door that must have a clear access. A 220 GFCI receptacle will be needed.
A 230/60 amp circuit that is dedicated to the hot tub to meet the building codes will also be needed.
The type of cable must be a 6-3 grounded cable. This type of wire has a ground wire, two hot wires and a neutral wire. It is mandatory for pools, hot tubs, spas and Jacuzzis.
It’s a good idea to have the dedicated circuit panel near the units in case the power needs to be shut down quickly. An outside hot tub will need a grounding rod.
Working with water and electricity is dangerous and requires that everything be done properly. A professional, licensed, and insured electrician will know what is needed and what has to be done to make sure that everything is done according to the standards of the building codes.
