Unfortunately, discrimination is still an issue in real estate, but our government has active offices like the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity to ensure that all Americans receive fair access to housing. This office is active to create policies which make sure equal opportunity has been given to all who seek it. They also ensure that those who are discriminated against have the ability and resources to seek legal aid, should they need it.
So this week we asked the question, “How do you guard against discrimination in real estate?” It is important for home sellers to make sure they are not violating any discrimination laws, especially if they are unintentionally breaking federal laws. Additionally, we wanted to know what protections were available for home buyers and renters to be sure they receive fair treatment.
Our top comments have been awarded below! We’ll wrap up this issue with additional research in our final post, later in the week.
