A designer is expected to transform a person’s home into a space that is not only functional, but aesthetically pleasing. To do this, they use a massive arsenal of tools. Colors, textures, architectural styles, accessories, décor, and light are just a few examples. Designers see a home as a blank canvas and work to create a masterpiece.

Part of that process is working with homeowners to find what inspires their living space. Collaboration is one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of a designer’s job. When it goes well, both parties get a great deal of satisfaction. When it goes poorly, no one ends up happy. We wanted to find out how designers work to ensure that their collaboration process always leaves them and the homeowner in a happy place.
