Our lawyers gave us some valuable insight into the legal world of divorce this week. For example, there are spikes in divorce depending on the time of year. Also, once a couple decides that divorce is imminent, they should try to make as many difficult decisions as possible before they contact an attorney. Discussing property division and child custody before hiring a lawyer can save time, and therefore money. Not all couples are amicable enough to come to agreements without a lawyer, but if possible, such discussions can be of great financial benefit to both parties.
Ultimately, we learned from our lawyers that every couple is different, but there are some notable trends and patterns.
Most notably, women are more likely to file for divorce, while lower income couples may be staying together due to the poor economy.
Below, we’ve awarded the comments we found most valuable. Check back later in the week for our followup article.
