New laws are being enacted regarding child pornography.
With extensive use of computers and the growth of the internet, pedophiles are able to electronically meet, talk, create, exchange and possess child pornographic images.
This is a federal and state crime.
There are federal laws in place that govern how child pornographers are prosecuted should they be convicted of manufacturing, distributing, or possessing child pornography. There are specific punishments for those convicted of these crimes.
If convicted of possession, distribution and receipt of child pornography, sentences can range from five to 30 years. Anyone convicted of selling or buying children for sexual exploitation faces a mandatory sentence of 30 years to life. The sentence for the importation of child pornography is a maximum of 20 years.
